Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze has been tipped by his mentor Victor Apugo to become a future Ballon d'Or candidate because of his impressive performances so far.
This comes after the Villarreal star was shortlisted among the best performing Under 21 players to fight for the Kopa Trophee.
Samuel Chukwueze is the only African player shortlisted for the award where he will face serious competition from Vinicius Jr, Matthijs DeLigt, Jordan Sancho, Joao Felix and others.
Apugo however explained that the Kopa Trophee recognition will help Samuel Chukwueze into becoming a contender for the Ballon d'Or in future.
“Chukwueze is going to be a great player. He already is a good player, I think he’s going to be a great player.
“No African has won the Ballon d’Or since George Weah in 1995, but Sammy (Chukwueze) has the potential to not only get nominated but to actually win it. However, he has to remain humble, focused and purposeful,” Apugo explained according to Complete Sports.
