FG set to boost electricity in Kano, provides N32bn compensation

The managing director of Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Alhaji Usman Gur Muhammad, has said that Kano state will soon get improved electricity with the inclusion of two more sources of supply.

Muhammad, who made the disclosure at a press conference in Kano on Saturday, October 19, said that TCN was working on a project to supply Kano electricity from Kaduna, Sokoto and Calabar, Daily Trust reports.

Legit.ng gathers that Muhammad also disclosed that N32 billion has been provided by the federal government for payment of compensation to those who might be affected by the expansion work.

He said: “We are going to build a code line from Kaduna to Kano. We need to get a source of supply to enable us channel power to Kano, we want to improve the quality of power in Kano state."

According to him, TCN will also install another 330KVA transformer at Rimin Zakara in Kano State to be connected to the Kumbotso sub-station.

He also said that TCN would install another 330KVA substation in Jogana, Gezawa local government area of the state.

Muhammad said: “I am here for the study. This contract has been awarded long ago but had been abandoned. The mistake made in the past was that contracts were awarded but no study was conducted on who were the people under the right of way and who were going to be affected by the project to pay them compensation."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the minister of power, Engr Saleh Mamman, assured Nigerians that the Muhammadu Buhari administration would deliver uninterrupted power supply to Nigeria before the end of its tenure.

The minister stated this while on a working visit to the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company on Friday, September 13.
