The Nigerian police on Saturday, October 19, rescued 147 victims from a facility that served as an illegal rehabilitation centre in the Rigasa area of Kaduna state.
Channels TV reports that those rescued from the facility popularly known as Malam Niga’s rehabilitation include 22 females and four foreigners.
Governor Nasir El-Rufai was said to be present during the raid as security operatives freed the victims who were later taken to the Hajj Camp in Mando area of the state capital for further profiling and medical attention.
Vanguard reports that the raid was confirmed by the Kaduna state police spokesperson, Yakubu Sabo, who said the governor led the police to the rehabilitation centre to find out what was happening there.
“The centre claimed that it was certified to rehabilitate train people in skills acquisition. The owner said they were brought by their parents to undergo rehabilitation as a result of drug abuse or other forms of mental sickness. we will investigate and find out why the people were chained," he said.
Sabo noted that the owner of the centre had been arrested and that the victims will be reunited with their family members.
This is the second time that the police in collaboration with the Kaduna state government will be rescuing victims from illegal detention centres in the state

The police said some of the people found in the house are from Burkina Faso, Mali and other African countries, Nigerian Tribune reports.
Legit.ng gathers that the unbundling of the house was confirmed by the state commissioner of police, Ali Aji Janga.
