Simon Achuba, Kogi deputy governor, impeached

Simon Achuba who is the deputy governor of Kogi state has been impeached.

Channels TV reports that the Kogi state House of Assembly announced the impeachment of the deputy governor on Friday, October 18.

The majority leader of the House revealed this at the state capital in Lokoja saying members of the House took the decision.

Recall that the deputy governor on Monday, September 16, dragged Governor Yahaya Bello and the commissioner for justice before the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) over alleged non-payment of allowances.

Achuba, in a suit NICN/ABJ/244/2019 filed on August 19, prayed the court to declare that the decision of the defendants to withhold his allowances was discriminatory and amounted to unfair labour practice.

He is also seeking for an order of the court for the payment of N921.5 million being his travel allowances, monthly impress, security votes and other statutory allocations due to his office as the deputy governor of Kogi.

The case which was filed by Falana & Falana’s chamber is yet to be assigned to a judge.

Recall that the Kogi chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) suspended Achuba from the party in August. He was suspended for anti-party activities before, during and after the 2019 general election.
