President Buhari also condoled with the families and victims of the incident who have lost lives and property in the fire
President Muhammadu Buhari has reacted to the fire incident in Onitsha, Anambra state on Wednesday, October 16.
The president in a series of tweets posted via his official social media handle described the incident where a full leaden petrol tanker fell at the market area leading to the loss of lives and property worth billions as sad and regrettable.
Stating that the sight of the charred remains of a mother and her child who are victims of the fire incident, President Buhari also extended his sympathy to all the victims of the explosion.
Calling on urgent action from relevant government agencies, President Buhari said safety precautions often neglected by heavy vehicle owners must be enforced across the country.
He said: "I call on the Ministry of Transport, the Federal Road Safety Commission and other stakeholders to urgently address the issue of safety standards in Nigeria, with a view to stemming the frequency of these tragedies. May the souls of the dead rest in peace Amen."
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that a fire outbreak in Ontisha, Anambra state led to the loss of many lives and property in Ochanja market.
The fire was reported to have started after a tanker, heavy laden with petrol fell at the market area on Wednesday, October 16.
