Another Nigerian, Efe Obada, has joined one of the world’s top earners in sport as he would be raking in a whopping sum of $574,000 as he plays for the Panthers.

CNBC reports that the Nigerian footballer was first introduced to the sports in the United Kingdom, an encounter that would later change his life in the way he never imagined.

The story of Obada gets more touching when one knows that he was trafficked from the Netherlands to the UK and abandoned on London streets at the young age of 10.

That oddity surrounding his childhood got him foster care as he goes from one home to another. The lucky Nigerian started football in his early 20s.

At the age of 22, as he tried making ends meet working as a security guard, his friend invited him for practice with the British-American football team, the London Warriors. That was the point in time his life took a sweet turn.

Impressed with his agility, speed, and physique, the team’s coach recommended him to his former team, Dallas Cowboys, and asked they give a trial. He was signed to the team in 2015.

From Dallas, he went on to play for Kansas City Chiefs and Atlanta Falcons before he ended up with Carolina in 2017.

After years of playing at the margin, the Nigerian sportsman got his first NFL game as a Carolina Panther, using the opportunity to shoot himself into the public glare as he played defensive and interception during his first game.

On noticing his marvelous performance, the head coach, Ron Rivera gave him the game ball as he went on to become the NFC defensive player of the week.

However, the player would need to work harder and extend his work visa so he does not have to move back to London. That should not be a problem for the young Nigerian who said: “I go hard every time”.
