Controversy brews as report claims Lawan got 26 slots in FIRS job scandal

- Senate President, Ahmad Lawan is convinced Nigeria needs prayers to overcome its challenges

- Lawan stated this while receiving some Christian lawmakers from the upper chamber

- He also called for prayers for the military as they battle criminality across the nation

The President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, has been indicted in a job scandal involving the Federal Inland Revenue Service.

According to a report by Daily Trust, Lawan secured 26 job slots for his constituents in the job heist which is now causing controversy in the upper chamber.

Some social media comments also suggest the allegation is true.

Already, some senators are threatening showdown over the sharing formula of the employment slots given to them by the federal agency.

The senators are of the opinion that they were not carried along in the process.

A senator recently accused Lawan of “hijacking the 26 slots without considering other senators, not even from his state.”

Senate committee chairman on federal character and inter-governmental affairs, Danjuma La’ah, said his committee had commenced an investigation into the allegations.

“I am making my investigation underneath to avoid disgracing people,“ he said.

Recently, Ghali Umar Na'Abba, a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, advised federal lawmakers to shun favours from government agencies.

Na'Abba made the comment on Wednesday, October 2, during the inauguration of the lower house committees totalling 105 in Abuja.

According to him, it is not ideal for lawmakers to go out of their way to seek favours from government agencies they ought to oversee.
