Nigerian lawyer reveals the illegal steps involved in meeting bail conditions in Lagos state

A Nigerian lawyer identified as Malachy Odo has taken to the popular micro-blogging platform, Twitter, to reveal the illegal steps involved in meeting bail conditions in Lagos state.

Odo said that no matter how silly the offence might be, a person would likely spend a few days in the prison once they are charged before a magistrate court.

According to him, the friends, family, and the lawyer of the offender would also have to deal with corruption while one’s bail is being perfected.

Odo noted that the court would grant the offender bail and demand that the requirements are met before they are released.

Noting that in cases where the family of the offender does not have the requirements needed, they may have to hire the service of a professional surety.

Sadly, from the professional surety contacted to all the departments involved in ensuring the perfection of the offender’s bail and the prison officer who is in charge of their final release, Odo stated that the offender’s family will part with some money.
