- Some chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) accuse Bukola Saraki, former Senate president, of causing crisis in the party
- The PDP chieftains say Saraki handed the party ticket in 2019 to people who are not members or loyal to the political organisation
- The members pass a vote of no confidence on Saraki's ability to resolve the crisis he allegedly created
Sunday Karimi, a former member of the House of Representatives, has accused immediate past Senate president, Bukola Saraki, of being behind the crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi state.
Karimi, who represented Yagba federal constituency, reportedly joined other members to accuse Saraki of playing a negative role in the plight of the party in the state.
According to them, Saraki issued non-party members tickets for the National Assembly elections in 2019 as well as the primaries of the PDP recently.
Vanguard reports that speaking in Lokoja, the capital of the state, the party chieftains rejected Saraki's appointment as head of the reconciliation committee of the PDP following grievances that followed the emergence of Musa Wada as candidate.
“Former Senate president was the mastermind behind the Kogi Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) crisis. Asking him to head the reconciliation team ahead the forthcoming governorship election in the state would only end up compounding the crisis he created.
“Saraki was the architect and the brain behind the destruction of the party in Kogi state, his role in imposing national Assembly candidates and in the last governorship primaries gave birth to the outcome of the Kogi PDP crisis today," they said.
The chieftains claimed the destruction of the party in the state is now obviously noticed adding that it is "the product of the seed planted long ago by the former Senate president when he insisted on given automatic tickets to non-PDP members as a reward for their loyalty to him."
Legit.ng earlier reported that the All Progressives Congress (APC) recently claimed Saraki does not have any influence to pull the PDP from the brink of defeat in Kogi state.
The two parties are set to battle it out in the state governorship election scheduled for November 16.
