- The insecurity situation in Bauchi state is a source of concern for Bauchi state governor, Bala Mohammed
- The governor is also concerned about the possible alliance between criminal elements and traditional rulers
- The governor has warned monarchs in the state to steer clear of conniving with criminals or be dethroned
Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state on Tuesday, October 15, said he would dethrone any monarch in the state found conniving with criminals.
The governor gave the warning while receiving members of the Bauchi state council of traditional rulers led by the Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Rilwanu Sulaiman Adamu.
He lamented that armed robbers and kidnappers displaced from other states are finding their way to Bauchi to cause havoc.
“Government cannot condone any traditional ruler who connives with criminals to terrorise innocent citizens of the state,” he said.
The governor further charged the monarchs on justice and fairness in discharging their duties.
He said his government would work with traditional institutions and other relevant agencies to ensure that the activities of criminal elements are a thing of the past.
Meanwhile, the federal government says security agencies have so far recovered over 470 assorted weapons and 13,000 pieces of ammunition from kidnappers and bandits operating in the north-west geopolitical zone of the country.
This was disclosed by the minister of defence, Major-General Bashir Magashi (rtd) on Tuesday, October 15.
