- APC national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, called on Edo state governor, Obaseki, to stop blackmailing him
- Oshiomhole said the Edo state governor should rather focus on delivery of good governance to the people of the state
- The APC national chairman also accused of Obaseki plotting to create crisis in the Edo state chapter of the ruling party and probably defect to another party
The crisis between Adams Oshiomhole, the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo state may not be ending anytime soon.
The APC in statement released on Tuesday, October 15, insisted that was attacked in his Benin residence on Saturday, October 12, though Obaseki claimed otherwise.
Speaking tough on the brewing crisis, Oshiomhole told Obaseki to focus on delivery of good governance to the people rather than blackmailing his personality, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
Oshiomhole also accused the Edo state governor who is his successor of plotting to create crisis in the Edo state chapter of the ruling party and probably defect to another party.
“We have it on good authority that the governor (Obaseki) intends to create disaffection and crisis in the state, APC and probably dump the party for another party.
“That is why, he has embarked on this brigandary which Edo people will resist. So, he should stop blackmailing me and face governance which is why Edo people voted him into power.
“We are even more scared now that the governor is making every effort to coerce me into giving him details of my movement in Edo Sstate. Who knows what he is plotting again. But every evil plot against me will fail,” he said.
He further alleged that Obaseki had been sponsoring thugs to harass and intimidate all the APC leaders and members across the state who are not in support of his second term ambition.
The APC national chairman also accused the Edo state governor of indiscriminately sacking workers for politically motivated reasons.
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Governor Obaseki said Oshiomhole did not inform him nor the police of his recent visit to the state, which, according to the governor, is a necessary protocol that should be observed especially for security reasons.
Obaseki also denied knowledge of the attack on the Benin residence of the APC chairman.
