Brazil vs Nigeria: Gernot Rohr reveals why Maduka replaced Uzoho ahead of Ezenwa

- Brazil vs Nigeria international friendly ended 1-1 at Singapore National Stadium

- Francis Uzoho was injured in the 63rd minute and was replaced Fortuna Düsseldorf shot-stopper Maduka Okoye

- Joe Aribo netted Nigeria's opener after 35 minutes while Brazil’s Selecao leveled scores through Casemiro in the 48th minute

Super Eagles boss Gernot Rohr has taken time out to explain the reason why the technical crew opted for Fortuna Düsseldorf shot-stopper Okoye Maduka to replace Francis Uzoho after the later cropped an injury during Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Brazil’s Selecao at Singapore National Stadium.

The Franco-German tactician stressed that Ikechukwu Ezenwa, who is second in the pecking order of goalkeepers was overlooked, no thanks to having not tasted action since the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, while Okoye has been playing regularly for Fortuna Düsseldorf's reserve team in the Regionalliga West.

“We decided to put in Maduka because Ezenwa didn't play for months, not even in the CHAN team,” Rohr was quoted as saying during an interview session with the Super Eagles media team.

“He(Ezenwa) didn't have any experience of competition in the last three months so we decided to play with Maduka because he was playing for his club,” noted Rohr, who was quick to react on Uzoho’s injury ahead of Nigeria's AFCON 2021 qualifiers against Benin Republic and Lesotho next month.

''Francis had a great match, we regret so much his injury, he will have examinations tomorrow so we will see exactly.

''He is playing again in his club so he can come back with us to play. I hope he will not be out for a long time because we have two important matches to play, against Benin in Nigeria and Lesotho, so we have a lot of work to do,” Rohr submitted.
