Oprah Winfrey honoured with roses, song, and portrait for scholarship she set up 30 years ago

Popular media mogul, Oprah Winfrey, was honoured by the Morehouse College students who benefited from the scholarship fund she set up 30 years ago.

At the honour ceremony, the beneficiaries presented her with roses, sang her a song and presented her with a portrait.

An emotional Oprah could not believe the gesture as she stood in amazement, collecting the roses from them.

Recall that Oprah was at the college to surprise students and teachers with another $13 million donations to continue the Oprah Winfrey Scholarship Fund.

The media mogul established the scholarship fund in 1989 with an initial $12 million investment.

Oprah, also offering to help African women with her influence, money and platform, said she is using the Oprah Winfrey Foundation to launch a fellowship to empower African women who are in public service sector.

The fellowship comes with the opportunity for the women to study tuition free at New York University’s Wagner graduate school of public service.

With the empowerment, Oprah is hoping there would be more Africa-centred solutions to some of the serious issues.

Apart from the free tuition, the programme also comes with stipends for books and other related expenses and an expense-paid travel to the US.

It should, however, be noted that the fellowship is not for those wanting to advance their professional career.

Top of the conditions for applicants is that they must be citizens of an African country, have a good track record of commitment to public service, and an impressive academic history.

It is also of great importance that applicants must be willing to return to their countries at the end of the fellowship and contribute in key areas needing their expertise. By Monday, December 2, interested candidates must submit an essay, a one-minute video and fill out an application form on the foundation’s website.
