- The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa has revealed why a former deputy governor of the state, Ebebi Peremobowei, dumped the party
- The PDP said that Ebebi, alongside many others, joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) because they lacked character
- The ruling party in the state also alleged that the defectors left because they were lured with financial offers
Following the recent defection of a former deputy governor of Bayelsa, Ebebi Peremobowei, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) the ruling party in the state has boasted of victory in the forthcoming gubernatorial election.
Speaking on Sunday, October 13, the chairman of the PDP in the state, Chief Moses Cleopas, said that those who defected from the party lacked character and integrity, The Nation reports.
Cleopas said that despite the wane of defection from the PDP, the party will still floor the APC in the state by a landslide victory because it has the full support of the masses.
He alleged that those who defected, one of which was Ebebi, made the decision because they were unable to resist suspicious offers that came with threats.
However, Cleopas admitted that it was a shock that someone with a calibre like that of Ebebi in the party could turn his back and betray it.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Ebebi said that had explained that he left the PDP for the APC because of disregard for due process.
The former deputy governor of Bayelsa also alleged that he made the hard decision of defecting to the APC following high-handedness and desperation in the leadership of the PDP in the state.
