Buhari makes move against corruption, promises to look into government cost

- President Muhammadu Buhari has said the cost of governance in the country will be looked into so that corruption can be weeded out

- The president said this when meeting with members of the anti-corruption committee at the state house in Abuja on Thursday, October 10

- Buhari applauded members of the committee for how much they have sacrificed for the country's anti-corruption crusade

President Muhammadu Buhari has promised to look into the cost of governance with the aim of blocking out holes that allows for corruption.

He said this when he hosted the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC) on Thursday, October 10, at the state house in Abuja.

According to a statement signed by Buhari’s media aide, Femi Adesina, the president also thanked members of the anti-corruption committee for how they have made big sacrifices in serving the country.

The president also vowed that the situation where stolen public assets are returned to the people who took them will be a thing of the past as he said such would not happen again.

Buhari said that when such assets are seized, they would be sold and the money deposited in the nation’s treasury account.

“Let’s see who will now take back the money from the treasury, and give back to those people, as was done in the past,” he said.

PACAC on the other hand advised the president on the way forward on anti-corruption crusade, adding that the reestablishment of the jury system for criminal cases, setting of judicial commission, among others, will go a long way to help.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Buhari said he is fully committed to the unity of Nigeria, and will devote his time and energy to promoting it for the benefit of Nigerians.

The president made his feelings known during a visit to the State House by a delegation of Benue state Council of Traditional Rulers led by the Tor Tiv, Professor James Ayatse, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Wednesday October 9.
