They never anticipated. This is because some of them may have been used to such sexual gratifications in the past and had not one single reason to fear that their deeds would be exposed. But the affected lecturers now have all the time to themselves to reflect on what many, including Aisha Buhari, Nigeria's first lady, have condemned in different ways.
There had had been pockets of complaints and grumbling among victims of harassment by lecturers. However, on many occasions, such cries never went far, until the recent discovery and report by the BBC Africa.
Here, we bring you six lecturers who have had to face the scandal while putting their professional calling in danger:
1. Samuel Oladipo (PhD)
Until some hours ago, he was a lecturer in the department of economics at the University of Lagos (UNILAG). He was indicted in the scandal now rocking the tertiary institution as shown in the documentary by the BBC.
The vice chancellor of the institution, Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, reportedly confirmed Oladipo’s suspension adding that he may have to face a panel.
“The entire episode is unfortunate and tragic because lecturers are supposed to be loco parentis to the students. My appeal to our colleagues is to refrain from a negative act that can tarnish the image of the university and themselves,” Ogundipe said.
2. Olabode Ajoniyi (PhD)
This lecturer at the Osun State University (OSU) in Osogbo was of the department of languages and logistics.
He was said to have been caught on video 'having a swirl time' with one of his female students identified as Mercy Ikwue in a hotel room.
The case is reportedly still being investigated by the authorities.
3. Olaleye Aduwo (PhD)
Aduwo, a lecturer at the Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado Ekiti, also found himself entangled in the web of such scandal after a 29-second video surfaced in which he was accused of trying to 'go down' with one of his students for the purpose of giving her additional marks.
The lecturer was reportedly caught, tortured, harassed by people who the supposed victim brought with her.
4. Sunkanmi Odubunmi (associate professor)
The expert in economics at the Lagos State University (LASU) was said to have been caught while allegedly assaulting a female student whose identity is yet to be known.
The lecturer was dismissed after investigation by the school disciplinary committee.
5. Richard Akindele (professor)
The drama over the case of this senior lecturer in the department of accounting at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) and Monica Osetoba Osagie, lasted many weeks.
Akindele, in an audio that was released, was said to have prodded Monica and said he would sleep with her five times before upgrading her score from 33% to whatever score she liked.
He was eventually sacked by the institution.
6. Boniface Igbenuhue (PhD)
His case is most unfortunate because aside being a lecturer at the faculty of arts at the University of Lagos, Igbenuhue was a pastor at the Four Square Gospel Church.
In the video, he instructed the female undercover reporter to turn off the light so he could give her a kiss.
He told her: “Switch off that light, I’ll kiss you for a minute."
He also promised to keep everything that happened between the undercover reporter, who disguised as a 17-year-old girl, secret.
Legit.ng earlier reported that the journalist behind the documentary, Kiki Mordi, revealed that she has been receiving threats since the documentary went viral on the internet.
