- Aguinede was suspended following allegation of diversion of the state's funds under his control
- The suspension will span a period of two months to allow sufficient time for investigation into the issue
Following allegation bordering on diversion of state's funds, Governor Godwin Obaseki has suspended Honourable Patrick Aguinede,the chairman of Esan West local government area.
According to Monday Osaigbovo, the state's commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, Aguinede allegedly failed to remit to the complete funds collected as internally generated revenue, The Nation reports.
Osaigbovo said: “The statistics he gave as the number of tricycles and motorcycles operating in Esan West is 3000.
"If he collected N150 each from them, that amounts to N9 million monthly but Aguinede was remitting only N4.5 million."
The commissioner also revealed that the chairman's suspension will last for two months to enable proper investigations into the allegation against him.
He also said that Obaseki had warned all working in the state government that he will not fail to suspend and prosecute anyone caught stealing public funds.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Governor Obaseki had sacked all his 264 aides comprising special assistants and senior special assistants working in the state government.
Obaseki explained through the state's secretary, Osarodion Ogie, that the move was so that the governor could restructure the government for better administration.
