Newly promoted Premier League side Sheffield United reportedly tried to sign Nigerian star Dennis Bonaventure during summer transfer window.

The Blades gained promotion to the topmost English football league after finishing second on the Championship table at the end of last season.

Chris Wilder however made efforts landing the Club Brugge striker who became popular after scoring two first half goals against Real Madrid in the Champions League last month.

HITC quoting Owngoal Nigeria claims the striker's value has skyrocketed to £26 million after netting his first European brace.

Dennis has also been impressive for the club in the Belgian topflight - scoring three goals in seven appearances, taking his goal tally to six in all competitions.

Apart from Sheffield, Monaco also tried signing the former Zorya Luhansk youngster over the summer while he was valued around £13 million.

The Premier League side could however make another bid for the Nigerian star when the January transfer window opens.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Dennis Bonaventure has spoken out about his backlash from fans during Club Brugge's first Champions League game against Galatasary.

The Belgian side played a 0-0 draw with the Turkish champions and the Super Eagles was held responsible for missing big chances in the game.

The 21-year-old went on to explain how people who play bet came after him on social media with threats and insults because of his missed chances.
