Maintain aggressive posture against bandits, kidnappers - Buratai charges troops

Lt Gen Tukur Buratai, chief of Army staff, has directed troops stationed in Zamfara, Katsina, Sokoto and other states to maintain the aggressive posture against unrepentant bandits, kidnappers and cattle rustlers.

A statement released by Army spokesman, Col Sagir Musa, on Monday, October 7 disclosed that Buratai issued the directive during an address to troops at the 1 Brigade headquarters in Gusau, Zamfara state.

Legit.ng gathers that the Army chief commended the troops for their commitment and professional disposition towards ensuring that the ongoing peace deal in the state is maintained and consolidated.

He reiterated that the Nigerian Army is combat ready to protect the lives and properties of all citizens, and admonished troop to remain disciplined, committed, dedicated and absolutely loyal to constituted authorities at all times.

He warned that human rights violations by any personnel would never be condoned and urged troops to adhere to the Army’s extant Rules of Engagement and Code of Conduct during operations and training exercises.

He said: “No officer or soldier should take laws into his/her hands. Innocent civilians must be protected at all times, rights abuses will never be encouraged, condoned or go unpunished.”

Buratai assured the troops of the Army’s commitment to the welfare of themselves and their families, under his leadership.
