BBNaija reality show began on June 30th, 2019, and attracted the attention of many fans within and outside the country. As much as the show was entertaining to viewers, it had several ups and downs for the housemates. At some point, we saw fights, despair, and all sort of awful things they encountered along the way. Until the last day, only five housemates out of the twenty-six in total remained in the house. The competition was tight, with neither of them sure of a victory until the last minutes. The remaining five housemates were Mercy, Mike, Omashola, Seyi, and Frodd.

Big Brother Naija: The final day

Before the eventual winner was announced, the audience witnessed three evections. The first eviction saw Seyi leave the house, followed by Omashola and then Frodd leaving Mike and Mercy as the last two standing. After the evictions, the three were separately invited to the stage. It was an exciting moment for each, as recaps of their time during the show were displayed on the screen. They also had time to talk about their time on the show and air their opinions on whom they would want to emerge victorious.

Until its final day, Big Brother Naija had witnessed numerous evictions. As reported by Ebuka Echendu, the host; the show has had a total of twenty-three evictions and one disqualification. Only one housemate, Tacha, was disqualified after her fight with Mercy.

Mercy Eke emerges the winner

Following the exit of Omashola, Seyi, and Frodd, only two housemates, Mike and Mercy, were the final contestants for the prize. Against all odds, Mercy emerged the winner with 41.77% beating Mike, who had 19.94%. The other three finalists, Frodd, Omashola, and Seyi, had 16.64%, 11.58%, and 10.25%, respectively.

The victory makes her the first female to win the BBNaija reality show since it began about a decade ago.

So, what does this win mean for Mercy Eke? According to the organizers of the show, the winner would receive a whopping N30 million, and atop the cash prize, they would also get other prizes worth N30 million. They include, an SUV from Innoson Motors, the Nigerian automaker; a home electronic make-over courtesy of Scanfrost, a trip to Dubai for two packaged by TravelBeta; a brand new Oppo mobile smartphone; a year's supply of Pepsi and One Africa Fest VVIP experience for one year; and a year's supply of Indomie noodles and Munch it. The winner would also receive another bonus prize of two VIP tickets to watch European Football final games live courtesy of Bet9ja. Mercy must be a happy lady at the moment, knowing that this is what awaits her in the coming days.

ONE.org presentation winner

Other than the overall BBNaija prizes presented to Mercy, other housemates were presented with awards in different capacities as well. Seyi, for example, emerged the ONE.org presentation winner. This will see the housemate join the organization as a new member in the United Nations General assembly to talk about poverty in Nigeria. Mike was also not left behind; he bagged another notable prize.

Bet9ja Arena games

Mike won the Bet9ja Arena games prize. He was the most consistent winner of the Bet9ja-sponsored arena games. This, therefore, means that the housemate will take N2 million home.

BBNaija's final day was one of its kind. Other than the entertaining host, exciting presentations from Nigeria's most prominent names also crowned the day. Mr. Incredible (M.I Abaga) performed some of his songs Anoti, Bad Belle, and Undisputed.

Patoranking was also in action entertaining with his Alubarika, and Tiwa Savage came through with her astounding 49-99 and Lova Lova songs. This was definitely a day to remember for the audience as well as the finalists. Throughout the event, the audience was lively with cheers and ululations coming from all corners.

Reactions from fans on Twitter

Mercy's victory was received well by the fans. They took to Twitter to congratulate and encourage her. We have compiled for you some of these reactions.

For one to emerge as a winner out of twenty-six contestants, one requires discipline and sacrifice. A section of fans noticed these attributes from her during the show and were quick to point them out in their congratulatory tweets.

Another fan took a completely different approach to his celebration. Do you recall that Tacha was disqualified because of her fight with mercy? Well, a particular fan of Mercy was quick to take a jab at Tacha in a tweet portraying a surprised look accompanied by the caption Mercy's haters right now. This is perhaps to show that Tacha would receive Mercy's victory with utter shock. Whether this is true or not, we cannot tell.

During such functions, celebrities dress to kill, and Mercy did not lag behind. Other than the award she was to receive, her fans noticed the sparkling appearance of Mercy's outfit during the occasion, and here is what they had to say about it.

With most fans celebrating the winner, a section of them was not happy and criticized BBNaija for fraudulence. @Kayomidee, for example, questioned why the winner would receive N60 million when they made a whole 7.2 billion. He went ahead to pen down the calculations to draw out the mischief. Well, we will be waiting to hear what BBNaija will say in response.

For the lovers on the Pepper Dem reality show, Sunday, October 6th, 2019, marked the end of this year's season. Lamborghini, as many would want Mercy called, beat the other twenty-five housemates to win the prize.

As I conclude BBNaija news today, I wish Mercy all the best in the days to come. I also want to encourage the former housemates to keep the focus and use whatever they learned in the house to prosper in their lives. What do you think of the show? Did Mercy deserve the prize?
