Inter vs Juventus clash saw the Bianconeri beat their hosts Nerazzurri 2-1 on Sunday night, October 6, at San Siro.
Juventus manager Mauricio Sarri started Gonazlo Higuain from the bench, with his compatriot Paulo Dybala partnering Cristiano Ronaldo in attack, but Antonio Conte opted for Romelu Lukaku as replacement for suspended Alexis Sanchez.
The visitors netted the opening goal of the contest through Dybala in the fourth minute, courtesy of Miralem Pjanic assist, with the Argentine placing his strike beyond Samir Handanovic in goal for Inter.
Ronaldo came close to doubling Juventus lead but his shot came off the woodwork as the Old Lady’s pushed for more goals.
However, in the 19th minute of the game, Inter were handed a lifeline after Matthjis de Ligt was adjudged to have handled the ball deliberately inside the box.
Lauturo Martinez took responsibility and smartly dispatched the spot-kick to level scores at 1-1..
Five minutes to the break, Ronaldo’s goal celebration was cut short, after Dybala was caught offside in the build-up as scorers stood 1-1 at the break.
After the restart, Juventus were getting more of the balls and came close to restoring their lead in the 55th minute, but Handanovic was spot on to keep out Dybala’s volley.
In the final 20 minutes of the contest, Inter stepped up their game as Matis Vecino fired from distant Juventus goalie Wojciech Szczesny missing in action, only for the effort to miss target.
With 10 minutes of play left, Ronaldo set up Higuain and the Argentine made no mistake as he fired home Juve’s second goal of the night.
At the blast of the final whistle the scored board read Inter 1-2 Juventus.
The result sees Juventus topple Inter at the summit of the Serie A log going into the second international break of he campaign.
