There was panic in Southern Ijaw local government area of Bayelsa state on Wednesday, October 3, when gunmen whisked away the monarch of Tarakiri clan in the area, His Royal Majesty, King Agbabou Week.
The 84-year-old monarch is the father of the state commissioner for agriculture, Doodei Week.
ThisDay reports that he was forcefully taken was away from his country home at Ayama-Ijaw in the council.
He was reportedly kidnapped about 11.20 p.m. by seven masked men, who reportedly carried high-tech weapons.
The gunmen also carted away television sets, jewelry, and other valuables after ransacking the home of the monarch.
There re concerns in the state about the security situation as Bayelsa prepares for a governorship election scheduled for Saturday, November 16.
Asinim Butswat, spokesperson of Bayelsa police command confirmed the incident and promised to give details later.
Meanwhile, police authorities in Zamfara say 372 kidnapped victims have been rescued, while 240 guns were surrendered by repentant bandits.
This was revealed by Usman Nagogo, the state’s commissioner of police.
