Manchester United struggles continue in the Europa League as they were forced to a goalless draw by Dutch league side AZ Alkmaar.

The Red Devils were unable to build on their slim victory over FC Astana in their opening Group L game at Old Trafford last month.

Although, United are topping the table with four points after two matches, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men have not won any of their last two matches.

It would be recalled that it took penalties for United to beat Rochdale and progress to the next round of the EFL club having played 1-1 draw in open play.

Most of United key players are out due to injury but the manager introduced Mason Greenwood into the fold in the absence of Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford.

The forward missed his side's draw against Arsenal in their last Premier League encounter at Old Trafford earlier this week.

However, the youngster, alongside Daniel James and Angel Gomes all fired blanks despite James having an early scamper down the left-hand side a minute into action.

Aware of the danger, the home side announced their presence in the game and almost took an early lead only for Boadu's effort to be ruled for an offside as the first half finished 0-0.

The second half of the match saw Solskjaer introduce Rashford in place of James, but the Englishman made little or no impact.

The encounter eventually finished 0-0, with both sides sharing the spoils in another frustrating night for Solskjaer.

United however remain second on Group L with four points, with Partizan topping the group.

The Red Devils have been struggling to hit top form this season and are currently tenth on the Premier League table from seven matches.

United have only managed to earn nine points in as many games and recently drew 1-1 with Arsenal at Old Trafford.
