Baby factory: Police rescue additional 7 pregnant girls in Lagos

- The Lagos state police command has rescued additional 7 pregnant girls in the state on Wednesday, October 2

- The disclosure was made by DSP Bala Elkana, the command's public relations officer

- Elkana says five of the girls are from Imo state, while the remaining two hail from Abia and Rivers states respectively

The Lagos state police public relations officer, DSP Bala Elkana, has said that the command has rescued additional 7 pregnant girls in the state on Wednesday, October 2.

Elkana, who made the disclosure in a press release sent to Legit.ng, said that the pregnant girls were stranded at Cele bus stop, along Oshodi-Apapa expressway.

The police spokesperson said that a a child of about 2-year-old was also rescued.

The statement read: "On 2nd October 2019 at about 1.00am Isolo police station received an Information that seven pregnant young girls were seen stranded at Cele bus stop along Oshodi- Apapa expressway, Lagos.

"A team of detectives led by the divisional police officer Isolo, CSP Folorunsho Gabriel mobilised to the area. The 7 pregnant girls were rescued to the station."

The police spokesperson said the rescued girls, who are between ages 13 and 27, were handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further investigation.

According to Elkana, five of the girls are from Imo state, while the remaining two hail from Abia and Rivers states respectively.

Legit.ng previously reported that a baby factory in a detention camp in the Ikotun area of Lagos, was uncovered by the police command in the state after weeks of close monitoring and utilisation of intelligence reports.

Police officers also rescued 19 pregnant girls (between the ages of 15 and 28 years) and a day-old-baby.

The policemen were able to arrest the caregivers, nurse to the captors and the operators of the hotels in which the pregnant girls were hidden.

Narrating her bitter experience, Hope Bright, one of the captives, from Rivers, whose two-year-old child was taken from her, said: “As I reached there, the woman checked me. Suddenly, my stomach started kicking me.

"From there, they said that I will born. They took me to the hospital, God helped me I delivered that child, but the baby died. They collected the baby from me, I did not see that child again."
