Nigerian football fraternity have been thrown into deep mourning following the untimely and tragic death of two Police Machine players Saturday Glory and Ani Ekong.

These two players died on Tuesday evening, October 1, which was the day Nigerians were celebrating their 59th Independence.

Saturday Glory and Ani Ekong were said to have been killed by a hit and run driver in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state after their evening training.

Police Machine are preparing for the Nigeria Women Professional League relegation playoffs slated for Lokoja in Kogi state before this heartbreaking incident.

According to the news gathered by Legit.ng, the unknown driver also left four other players of Police Machine injured and they are currently receiving treatment in the hospital.

Chairperson of the Nigerian Women Football League Aisha Falode has expressed shock and sadness over the demise of Saturday Glory and Ani Ekong.

''It is with great sadness that we received the news of the death of two young players of Police Machine and we are devastated at this tragic passing of Saturday Glory and Aniebet Ekong.

''The thoughts of everyone at the NWFL are with the families of the deceased, their friends, teammates, the management and everyone connected to the club at this difficult time,''.

Previously, Legit.ng had reported how Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) announced the shocking demise of former Super Falcons forward Ifeanyi Chiejine who died after a brief illness.

According to the statement by the Nigeria's Football governing body, the former Confluence Queens of Lokoja striker died on Wednesday, August 21.
