Boko Haram: Don’t pamper terrorists - Military chief Olonishakin begs media

Major General Gabriel Olonishakin, Nigeria's Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), has pleaded with media organisations across the country to avoid glorifying terrorists.

Olonishakin believes that one way to frustrate the activities of the insurgents is to avoid granting them undue publicity.

Daily Trust reports that Major General Olonishakin made the plead at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria's federal capital when he addressed journalists.

According to the Army chief, the press should play positive roles during crises so as to build peace.

He explained that military operations demanded a cordial working relationship with the media for enlightenment purpose and national security.

Legit.ng earlier reported that there had been no official comments, confirmation or denial two days after reports made the round that some soldiers had been killed by the Boko Haram insurgents in Borno state.

A report by Reuters had said that the Islamic State (IS) through its Amaq news agency, claimed its men killed 14 Nigerian soldiers in Borno, northeastern Nigeria on Wednesday, September 25.

The report was said to have been confirmed by military sources but the spokesperson of the Army did not immediately speak when contacted for comments.
