P&ID’s $9.6bn claim: Senate summons Malami, CBN boss, others

- The Senate invites justice minister, Abubakar Malami, to appear over $9.6 billion failed project claim by Project and Industrial Development (P&ID)

- Malami's summon follows Senator Bamidele Opeyemi's argument on the need to invite some officials for explanation

- Also summoned are the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, and officials of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC)

The Senate, on Tuesday, September 24, asked the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and justice minister, Abubakar Malami, to appear before it concerning the $9.6 billion failed project claim by Project and Industrial Development (P&ID).

Also summoned are the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, and other relevant agencies to the issue.

The Senate’s decision to summon the top government officials followed ‘order 42’ cited by a lawmaker, Bamidele Opeyemi, during plenary.

Opeyemi spoke on the need to invite Malami and other relevant stakeholders to brief the relevant committees of the Senate on the judgment debt on Nigeria by a United Kingdom industrial court.
