Fleeing Boko Haram terrorists are hiding in Borno, Yobe towns - Nigerian Army

The Nigerian Army has said that some surviving Boko Haram terrorists are seeking refuge in the homes of certain individuals in some parts of Borno and Yobe state.

Colonel Ado Isa, the spokesperson for the theatre command operation lafiya dole on Saturday, September 21, said credible information reaching the command indicates that the terrorists have been escaping and taking refuge in the residence of some persons in Maiduguri, Damboa, Gajiram, Monguno, Damasak, Biu, Gwoza Dikwa, Benisheikh, Ngamdu, Bama, Gamboru, Konduga, Gajigana and other smaller towns all in Borno state.

He said some insurgents have also ran to Damaturu, Gujba, Buni Yadi, Buni Gari, Gashua, Kanamma, Yususufari, Goniri and Kukareta towns in Yobe state, among others.

The command warned those harbouring the fleeing insurgents to report or hand them to the troops immediately or face severe consequences for failing to do so.

Colonel Ado Isa said while efforts was being intensified to apprehend the fleeing insurgents, he urged all well-meaning Nigerians, especially those residing in aforementioned areas, to report any suspicious and strange faces in their communities.

Meanwhile, seven commanders of the Islamic State’s West African Province (ISWAP) have been killed by troops of the Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF) and the Nigerian Armed Forces.

The acting director of the Army public relations, Colonel Sagir Musa, in a statement on Friday, September 20, said the operation took place at the Tumbus area of Lake Chad region.

Musa said information emanating from the terrorists' circle suggests that a lot of terrorists are escaping to Sudan and the Central African Republic.
