Alleged N400m theft: Nigerian Army court-martial Major General Otiki

- Major General Hakeem Otiki is currently battling for his career and freedom

- The military officer is facing court martial over the theft of N400 million by soldiers escorting a VIP from Sokoto to Kaduna

- Meanwhile, Otiki has objected to General Adeosun as president of the tribunal

The court martial of Major General Hakeem Otiki, a former General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 division, is currently ongoing.

Channels TV reports that Okechukwu Adinu appeared for General Otiki while Lieutenant General Adeosun is the president of the tribunal.

Recall that five soldiers were alleged to have stolen N400 million while on escort duty from Sokoto to Kaduna state in the first week of July.

The former GOC had reportedly asked the soldiers to escort the money and deliver it to a Very Important Personality (VIP) in Kaduna.

Meanwhile, the lawyer to the defendant objected to General Adeosun as president of the tribunal because he feels he will not get a fair trial under his leadership of General Adeosun as they have a long-standing grudge. Adinu asked General Adeosun to recuse himself from the trial.

Recall that Legit.ng had reported that Otiki was placed under house arrest at the Officers Mess.

Otiki was grilled by personnel from the Directorate of Military Intelligence (DMI), Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB), and Nigerian Army Corps of Military Police (NACMP).

Legit.ng had also reported that the Nigerian Army said that investigations had commenced into the case involving some soldiers who stole a consignment while on escort duty from Sokoto to Kaduna.
