WWE Clash of Champions 2019 is back after a two-year break! The pay-per-view extravaganza has returned and took the Spectrum Center located in Charlotte, North Carolina, by a storm. The allure of the re-instated championship was in the air as the strongest ones encountered each other for the sake of coveted prizes.
The Sunday show featured eleven matches on the card, within which ten titles were to be defended. Still, only a few championships changed hands up or down. The event was a total success, and now you will get to know why.
WWE Clash of Champions 2019: championships highlights and their results
Cruiserweight Title Match
The championship featured Drew Gulak and the top fighters of 205 Live, Humberto Carrillo and Lince Dorado (Lucha House Party's). Gulak started his aggressive attack with the opening bell and did not care to take some time and check the capabilities and strategy of his opponents. Carrillo fought back in a matter of moments. Dorado delivered a smashing headscissors. Still, Gulak recovered immediately and brought his masked opponent to the floor. Then, he switched his attention to the younger rival.
The wrestling veteran threw his competitor to the floor. At that moment, Dorado tried to re-enter the fight but encountered Gulak's great submission-based offence. Then, Dorado worked a Pele kick and hit the champion, so that the youngest got a spark of hope. Carrillo joined in and eventually wiped out both his rivals.
Carrillo attempted for a moonsault, but Gulak met him with a nasty clothesline. This unexpected blow turned the younger one inside out. Dorado, in the meanwhile, tried to get Carrillo, who was at that moment atop the ropes but missed. Carrillo worked the Aztec Press on his opponent, but Glak threw him down and thus defended his title successfully.
- Championship grade: B
- Championship result: Gulak defended his title after defeating Dorado and Carrillo
United States Championship Match
The match featured AJ Styles versus Cedric Alexander. It is interesting that the meeting took place only six days after The Phenomenal One was pinned in a team match. Alexander had an energetic beginning with a series of dives and strikes that got Styles reeling right at the beginning. Still, things turned into Styles' favour after a successful release suplex performed on the ring apron.
It was evident that Styles was trying to hit his opponent's knees to get rid of his high-flying strategy of fighting. Alexander managed to perform a comeback for a moment, but Styles was there to work his Phenomenal Forearm and to put the rival away.
- Championship grade: F
- Championship result: Styles overcame Alexander
Raw Tag Team Championship Match
The third championship of the evening featured Seth Rollins and Braun Strowman against Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode.
From the very beginning, the Universal champion Rollins and his partner were cut off from each other. Ziggler and Roode worked a concentrated attack. Strawman ran over the fight and had a chance to unleash his fury on The Glorious One and The Showoff.
Still, a blind change forced The Monster Among Men strike the ring post. He managed to slam Roode and thus help his partner Rollins re-enter the combat. Still, it was not enough to overcome the rivals. Roode threw the competitor down with the help of a powerful spinebuster. Strowman ran over, but it happened so that in the process his own partner was knocked down. Roode pinned Rollins and polished the victory with his Glorious DDT.
- Championship grade: B
- Championship result: Roode and Ziggler won the titles after defeating Strowman and Rollins
SmackDown Women's Championship Match
The fourth combat out of eleven featured Charlotte Flair and Bayley. Charlotte Flair, the daughter of her famous father, the owner of 16 titles, seemed to get an inch closer to her dad's achievement this evening. She started very aggressively, but the champion was ready to defend herself. She took Flair by her hair and threw her to the floor. When Charlotte attempted to build momentum, Bayley made her way to the corner and suddenly removed the turnbuckle pad.
Then, it was only a matter of moments until Bayley pulled her rival into the turnbuckle pad and pinned her down.
- Championship grade: C+
- Championship result: Flair was defeated by Bayley
SmackDown Tag Team Championship Match
The next event of WWE Clash of Champions 2019 featured the New Day team and their rivals, The Revival team. Xavier Woods partnered by Big E fought against Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson. Wilder started with pulling Woods down from the ring apron and left Big E to fight on all alone. Then, The Revival attacked Big E together and forced the strongest participant of the competition to fight from underneath.
The fighter managed to work a big belly-to-belly suplex and thus make Woods (who already recovered and regained his energy) re-enter the combat. Woods attacked Dawson with a strong DDT, but there came Wilder and performed his own attack targeting the man's already injured knee.
Then, the two combatants left Big E on the floor and switched their attention to Woods again. They played a Shatter Machine on the fighter and concentrated all their attention and strength on his injured knee.
- Championship grade: C+
- Championship result: The Revival gained the titles after winning over New Day
Women's Tag Team Title Match
The sixth challenge of the evening featured Nikki Cross and Alexa Bliss fighting against Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville (also known as Desire and Fire respectively). The challenge turned out to be the toughest ever for Alexa and Nikki. Several days before the challenge, the rivals exchanged verbal blows: Fire and Desire criticized the appearance of Cross and Bliss, to which Cross retorted with mocking about Rose's hip gyrations.
Fire and Desire isolated Bliss from Cross from the very beginning of the game. Bliss worked a neckbreaker allowing her partner to step in and help her fight. This turn broke the double-team strategy of finishing the game. Rose managed to pin Cross to the floor, but the latter broke the pin and, for the second time, did not let the Fire and Desire team win the combat.
In a few moments, Cross performed a neckbreaker on Rose and thus defended the titles.
- Championship grade: C+
- Championship result: Cross and Bliss defended their title and won over Fire and Desire
Intercontinental Championship Match
The seventh encounter of WWE Clash of Champions 2019 involved The Miz and Shinsuke Nakamura. Live comments from Sami Zayn accompanied the beginning of the challenge. At the moment Zayn's microphone broke down, The Miz distracted his attention to it, and Nakamura caught the wrestler with a kick. The Miz fought back and worked a series of corner attacks, a double ax handle, and a big DDT. Nakamura performed an attack composed out of several complicated blows, but Miz dodged. Then, he managed to attack the challenger's knee. Nakamura escaped and managed to reach the ropes.

Raw Women's Championship Match
The hottest match of the whole evening featured Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks. Determined and focused from the very beginning, Lynch attacked Banks at once and threw her to the floor. Once back on her feet, Banks overtook control of the combat.
The challengers exchanged successful blows, but the champion managed to drop Banks with the help of a very powerful suplex. The rival responded, and another session of equally effective attacks followed. Seeing that her rival is not giving in, Banks delivered a primal scream and addressed all her rage at the opponent. She attempted another Banks Statement, but the attack was blocked.
So they kept on; Banks produced a couple of powerful backstabs while the rival struggled through the pain and retorted. Then, Banks grabbed a steel chair and made it a part of the combat. Lynch had to tear the furniture item out of the wrestler's hands, and as she swung it, she accidentally hit an official. The combat kept on for some time more, during which the challengers exchanged attacks and could not overcome one another. At the moment Banks was trying hard to drive Lynch onto a barricade, it was announced that the fight had been called off. Banks was announced the winner via disqualification.
- Championship grade: A
- Championship result: Banks won over Lynch via disqualification
WWE Championship Match
The ninth encounter of WWE Clash of Champions 2019 featured Randy Orton versus Kofi Kingston. Orton did not waste time and worked hard to ground Kingston. The big black elbow, however, met the wrestler and stunned him effectively. Once back, Kingston worked effective chops to the opponent's chest before the thumb of the latter appeared in front of his eyeball. Orton threw the champion to the floor and slammed his head against the announce tables.
The destruction continued for some time more until Kingston started to fight his way back to his feet. Orton attempted a DDT, but Kingston was smarter and worked him down to the floor. The challengers exchanged successful but not very effective manoeuvres. None of them seemed to win.
Desperate measures followed. Orton started to act more intensively and applied several cruel strokes, but Kingston ducked and escaped. Finally, the latter performed Trouble in Paradise that helped him retain his championship title.
- Championship grade: B
- Championship result: Kingston kept his title after defeating Orton

Roman Reigns encountered with Erick Rowan in the tenth event of the evening. Reigns started his attack even before the bell rang, but Rowan was ready to block it and respond by sending the opponent to the floor. The battle continued in the horizontal position, from which Rowan sent Reigns into the barricade and straight into the announce table.
Reigns tried to defend himself and performed a series of strokes, but Rowan met him with a cross-body shot. The combat moved back into the ring where the giants kept on punching each other in every possible way. Reigns took the steel steps and sent them into the opponent's face, accompanying the manoeuvre with a strong Superman Punch. Rowan, though, responded with a powerbomb and drove the challenger through the announce table.
So it went until the former IC champion grounded Reigns with a discus clothesline and pinned his victory with an iron claw slam.

The closing encounter of the night featured Seth Rollins and Braun Strowman. It was only a couple of hours after the two wrestlers performed in the other combat as a team. Strawman was the one to start the fight, but Rollins was quick enough to respond effectively.
Strawman managed to roll over Rollins two times. The opponent predicted the third attempt. Rollins dodged and sent the rival straight through the announce table. After several blows, the table was completely disintegrated.
The wrestlers delivered a series of interchanging strokes, giving the audience a spectacular show. This combat was exactly the thing the audience wanted to see. Finally, Strowman tried to catch Rollins, but the latter escaped. He dropped Strowman on the floor and delivered a fourth stomp. The blow was final: Rollins managed to defend his title.
- Championship grade: B-
- Championship result: Rollins overcame Strowman
This was the end of the incredible show. While celebrating his victory, Rollins did not notice The Fiend who appeared on the stage. Caught with Sister Abigail, the champion was thrown to the floor. The light over the arena started to fade, and only the maniacal laughter of Bray Wyatt denoted the end of WWE Clash of Champions 2019. The show was sent off the air and ended completely.
