EFCC arrests 11 suspected internet fraudsters in Delta

- The EFCC carried out a raid on hideout of suspected fraudsters in Sapele, Delta state

- The anti-graft agency said the raid was carried out after intelligence report

- Cars and mobile phones were recovered from the suspected fraudsters

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested 11 suspected internet fraudsters in Sapele, Delta state.

The anti-graft agency said the operation was carried out in the early hours of Saturday, September 14, in their hideout in Sapele.

The EFCC said the operation was based on intelligence and that the suspected fraudsters were caught by surprise.

The names of the suspects arrested are: Omomua Victor, Demi Johnson, Agufure Godstime, Agboroko Precious, Anthony Omonomo, Onskharoma Julius and Freeborn Efe, Akama Precious, Tagbajiemi Promise George Raphael and Stanley Agabiri.

Items recovered from the suspects include “a laptop computer, a Mercedes-Benz car, computers, mobile phones, flash drives and internet modems.”

According to the EFCC, “the suspects have made useful statements and will be charged to court as soon investigations are completed.”

Meanwhile, the Nigeria police command in Lagos arrested a 29-year-old man identified as Emeka Emmanuel alleged to have been impersonating EFCC operatives.

Emmanuel was arrested on Saturday, September 14, at Iyana-Iba in Ojo for allegedly defrauding innocent people under the guise of providing jobs for them at the EFCC.

Police said the suspect was found with a fake EFCC identity card in his possession which he allegedly used to deceive his victims.

His arrest followed complaint by one Olaposi Semiu at the Ojo Police Station that the suspect collected N51,000 from him over a month ago with a promise to secure his son's employment at the anti-graft commission.

Police spokesman Bala Elkana, a Deputy Superintendent (DSP), said Emmanuel confessed to the crime, adding that detectives also discovered he was running an illegal medical facility at his premises.
