A Nigeria's minister of finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has lost her father, Chukuka Okonjo.
Chukuuka, the immediate past obi of Ogwashi-Uku, Delta state, died in Lagos after he returned from a trip to the Unites States of America and Ghana.
A statement by the former minister on Friday, September 13, said the late professor and mathematician died the same way he lived his life, "with quiet dignity".
The former minister said the Okonjo family is immensely grateful that Chukuka's last moments were peaceful.
Okonjo-Iweala said: “Daddy was an accomplished man on so many levels - a highly respected academic, international public servant, university administrator, intellectual and traditional ruler."
The former minister also announced on her Facebook page that the throne of the Ogwashi-Uku kingdom has been automatically ascended to her brother.
Chukuka held a BSc Mathematics, London, UK; Msc Mathematics, Erlangen, Germany; MSc Economics, Erlangen, Germany; Phd Mathematical Statistics, Cologne, Germany.
He was a former director at the World Bank and held several positions including dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
Chukuka, the former minister said; “touched so many lives personally and professionally.”
“Having witnessed the ravages of war, he was committed to unity and peaceful coexistence of all," Okonjo-Iweala said.
“From his marriage of 66 years to our mother, Professor Kamene Okonjo to his dedication to duty, he was exceptional," the former minister of finance added.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Chukuka was recently honoured by the Ghanaian government in November 2016.

Chukuka received Ghana’s National Award which was conferred on him by President John Dramani Mahama in recognition of his exceptional contributions to the country’s education system.
