- The sacked Senate chief whip, Orji Uzor Kalu, has said that he is sure of winning election 20 times in Abia North
- Kalu said that he has appealed the ruling of the the National Assembly election petition tribunal which ordered his sack
- The senator also expressed certainty that his seat at the Senate is intact, adding that he has not lost his sleep over the issue
The embattled Senate chief whip who was recently sacked by the National Assembly election petition tribunal, Orji Uzor Kalu, has boasted that he is sure of winning election in Abia North senatorial district, if it is conducted 20 times.
Kalu, on Thursday, September 12, in Abuja said that he is at rest with the development as he is sure of emerging victorious in the rerun as ordered by the tribunal, The Cable reports.
He said: “I have already issued a statement that in Abia north we are not losing sleep. If we do that election 20 times, Buhari, our president, our senatorial district - my seat and the governorship candidate seat is intact, we will always win it. It is a fundamental error that they may have to call for supplementary election in some units.
“If not that it is a fight for my fundamental human rights, we will call for an election next week, if INEC will agree. But because the constitution gives us the right to appeal, we have already contacted our lawyers and the lawyers are already preparing our appeal to go to the appellate court.”
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the election of Kalu had been nullified by the National and state Assembly election petitions tribunal sitting in Abia state.
Senator Kalu, who represents Abia North at the red chamber, lost his seat on Monday, September 9, following the tribunal's ruling.
Legit.ng gathered that the tribunal, however, ordered for a rerun election for the Abia North senatorial district.
