Funke Adekoya wins 2019 African legal award
- Funke Adekoya (SAN) won the Partner of the Year award at the much coveted African Legal Awards 2019

Another Nigerian woman, Funke Adekoya (SAN), has achieved a milestone in her legal career as she won the Partner of the Year award at the African Legal Awards 2019 on Friday, September 6.
Business Day reports that the legal award recognises sterling achievement in the continent’s legal services industry.
To qualify, a person’s record of unique leadership, strong legal resourcefulness with success results, good client management, and community contribution are all tested.

Funke has had over 40 years of practice with different awards and wide acclaim to show for her excellence in commercial law and cooperative dispute. She has also represented different clients in various sectors.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Opeyemi Rabiat Akande, an Ibadan-born lawyer, won a Harvard prize for her PhD dissertation which was titled Navigating Entanglement: Contestations over Religious-State Relations in British Colonial Northern Nigeria c. 1890-1977.

It was gathered that the dissertation was based on the significance of religion in Nigeria. She graduated from the University of Ibadan (UI) in 2009.
Akande was among the 23 scholars who were given the prize by the law school. She is also the best graduating student from the faculty when she was a student at UI as well as of CS Ola Prize in company law and taxation.
