Salisu Yusuf: NFF announces return of Super Eagles coach after serving 1-year ban

Salisu Yusuf, former Kano Pillars boss, has returned to the national team following the expiration of a 12-months suspension for his role following a bribery incident.

Salisu was caught on camera collecting an undisclosed amount ($1000), in a bid to influence team selection for 2017 edition of WAFU Cup of Nations in Ghana and he was later found guilty as charged.

The ex-Enyimba coach has now served out his punishment.

A statement from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), on Thursday, September 11, revealed that Yusuf has returned to football, even as the football body applauded Nigeria's U-23 coach Imama Amapakabo for holding brief in his absence.

"The Nigeria Football Federation has noted that the Chief Coach of the Super Eagles, Salisu Yusuf has now fully served the one–year suspension clamped on him last year," the statement from the FA read in part.

"The Federation thanked Coach Imama Amapakabo for his sterling efforts while in charge of the U23 National Team in the absence of the suspended Yusuf, and for eventually seeing to the team’s qualification for the U23 AFCON." earlier reported that Nigeria’s U-23 side, Dream Team VII, qualified for AFCON U-23 in Egypt on Tuesday, September 10, after thrashing their Sudanese counterpart 5-0 (5-1 aggregate) at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba.

The encounter which was the reverse fixture of the final qualifying rounds, saw Nigeria come out smoking from kick-off to lead 3-0 going into the break.
