- Senator Uba Sani has congratulated President Buhari over his victory at the tribunal
- Presidential election petition tribunal on Wednesday, September 11, affirmed Buhari's victory and dismissed Atiku's petitions against the president
- The lawmaker, however, advised Atiku to accept the defeat in good faith and congratulate President Buhari
The lawmaker representing Kaduna Central at the Senate, Malam Uba Sani, has described the affirmation of the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) by the tribunal as a triumph of the people's will over the forces of reaction and retrogression in the country.
Legit.ng reports that the presidential election petitions tribunal sitting in Abuja on Wednesday, September 11, dismissed the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, challenging President Buhari's victory during the February 23 presidential election.
The five-man bench led by Justice Mohammed Garba unanimously dismissed the case for lacking in merit, after resolving all the five issues raised in the case against the petitioners.
It would be recalled that Justice Garba, who read the lead judgment, resolved all the five broad issues raised by the petitioners in favour of the respondents, stressing that none of the grounds on which the petition was anchored was proved.
Legit.ng's regional reporter in Kaduna, Nasir Dambatta, reports that while reacting to the victory, Senator Uba Sani said the landmark judgment that reaffirmed Buhari's election is a proof that democracy has finally been firmly entrenched in Nigeria.
He said the reactionary elements that stand in the way of Nigeria's progress for quite long have been uprooted by the people.
Senator Sani, therefore, hailed the judiciary for standing up to the expectations of the people, urging Nigerians to cooperate with government and support Buhari's genuine development initiatives.
The lawmaker, however, advised Atiku and his party to accept the defeat in good faith, saying that the former vice president should congratulate the president instead of appealing the judgement at the Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that the PDP rejected the final judgement of the tribunal that favoured President Buhari and described it as an assault on the integrity of Nigeria's judiciary.
