Ousmane Dembele: Ghanaian star Boateng labels French star 'little child'

- Ousmane Dembele is under heavy criticism at Barcelona over his average performance for the club

- The Frenchman joined the Blaugrana from Dortmund in 2017 for about £105m

- Former Barca star Boateng insists the youngster is still a child and must be accepted for who he is

Former Barcelona striker Kevin-Prince Boateng has labelled his former teammate Ousmane Dembele as a "small child" who cannot do anything on his own.

The 32-year-old attacker spent the second half of last season on loan at the Catalan club playing just four games with no goal to his credit.

Boateng is now back at his Italian League side Fiorentina and has scored one goal in his side's first two matches this campaign.

The Ghanaian believes the Frenchman needs to be guided at all times if the club wants to get the best out of the forward.

Uzodinma lauds Buhari's victory at presidential tribunal

Dembele joined Barca from Borussia Dortmund in a deal valued around £105 million but the 22-year-old has failed to live up to expectations at the club.

Meanwhile, the Blaugrana were close to sending him on loan to Paris Saint Germain this summer as part of the deal to land Neymar, but he rejected the move and will remain in Spain.

"Dembele is like a child for me. You need accept him for what he is," the midfielder told Bild.

"Yeah, he might arrive late for training now and again. There are players who do it on purpose but he's different. He's always like a little child.

"The problem, and this isn't just about Dembele, is that young professionals earn far too much money. An 18-year-old shouldn't be earning €4million per season.

"And if they do earn that, the money should be immediately reinvested so they see as little of it as possible.

"For me, he's still a boy swimming in a giant pool. He suddenly cost €105m and still doesn't know how everything works."

Dembele scored 14 goals and assisted eight others last season but he is yet to impress at the club with fans questioning his attitude and fitness.

He was said to have angered staff and players by missing a training session last November before turning up late to another a month later.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Ousmane Demebele has removed Barcelona from his Instagram handle after discovering he was included in the deal to sign Neymar from Paris-Saint-Germain.

The Spanish champions were prepared to bargain in player plus cash deal to re-sign the Brazilian superstar before the transfer deadline day on September 2 but the deal failed to pull through.
