Vincent Kompany, ex-Man City captain, has confirmed he’ll be missing his testimonial through injury.

According to Mirror, the former Belgium international, is currently down with hamstring injury and will be missing from the playing squad during his testimonial match tonight, September 11, at the Etihad Stadium.

The encounter is expected to feature several Premier League legends, in front of over 50,000-strong fans to honour Kompany after his 11 stint at the club, as well as raise money to battle the needs of the homeless in the city of Manchester.

“Unfortunately I won't be starting or playing tonight,” admitted Kompany.

“It's typical of me, right? I'm usually available for the end of the season.

“But I've got a slight hamstring injury, so I couldn't risk it tonight, but still plenty of awesome players to watch.

“It's about a celebration, saying goodbye, so it doesn't mean I have to be on the pitch. But for me to miss this game through injury, surely the irony isn't lost on anybody!”

However, Kompany, who now manages his boyhood club Anderlecht, will follow proceedings from the touchline.
