- Gernot Rohr, Super Eagles Franco-boss, says Nigeria don’t have a single quality pitch
- Rohr is appealing to new Sports Minster to address the negative trend
- The Franco-German wants Nigeria to follow the example Egypt showed quality pitches at AFCON 2019
Gernot Rohr, Super Eagles manager, has revealed one of the greatest problems affecting the Nigeria national team.
The Franco-German football tactician told Nigerian journalist Osasu Obayiuwana, in an interview in Bourdeux , France, that the Eagles don’t have excellent pitches to use as home ground and he does not understand why a country naturally endowed as Nigeria cannot boast of at most one quality football pitch.

“One of my biggest problems for the Super Eagles is that we don’t have a single quality pitch, in the whole of Nigeria, for my team to play matches on. This is not acceptable for a country of Nigeria’s level,” noted the former Bordeaux star, who sent a special plea to Minister of Sports, Sunday Dare, to help fix the main and practice pitches of the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja alongside the National Stadium Lagos.
“I am hoping that Sunday Dare, Nigeria’s new Sports Minister, will ensure that the main pitch and practice pitches of the Abuja National Stadium will be restored, as soon as possible. This will help my team a lot,” noted Rohr, who guided Nigeria to a bronze medal at 2019 AFCON in Egypt.

“I also know that Lagos is the home of football in Nigeria and we should be able to play there as well. I hope the Minister can help us by ensuring that we have good pitches to practice and play on, in Lagos,” Rohr added, even as he made reference to the Cairo International stadium.
“You saw the quality of pitches that the Super Eagles played on, at the #AFCON2019 (the Cairo International Stadium is pictured below). This should be the standard for Nigeria. The pitches we currently play on, in Nigeria, are not good enough,” Rohr submitted.
Legit.ng reported earlier that Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr apart from being a football tactician owns an incredible boutique hotel in France.
A tweet from football journalist Osasu Obayiuwana, suggests the Franco-German, has been the proprietor of Des Pins (Hotel of Pines) located in the French city Bordeaux for about 30 years.
