The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reacted to the declaration of Governor Nasir El-Rufai as winner of the March 9 governorship election in Kaduna, by the Governorship Election Tribunal sitting in the state.

The petition filed by the PDP’s candidate, Isa Ashiru, was struck out by the tribunal judge, Justice Ibrahim Bako, for lack of evidence, Daily Trust reports.

Legit.ng notes that Ashiru had filed a petition challenging El-Rufai’s victory.

The PDP chairman in Kaduna, Felix Hassan Hyet, however, stated that following a meeting with its governorship candidate and team of lawyers, the party would make its position known.

He said it was unfortunate that the tribunal agreed that elections were conducted in all local government areas of the state including Birnin Gwari and Giwa that were not accessible during the exercise, due to insecurity.

Hyet urged party supporters to stay calm and law-abiding as they await the party’s position.

On his part, El-Rufai urged residents of the state to join hands with his administration and turn the state around; describing the tribunal’s ruling as a welcome development.

In a statement released by his spokesman, Muyiwa Adekeye, the governor expressed gratitude to the people of the state, and thanked the tribunal for its verdict.
