Tribunal upholds El-Rufai’s election as Kaduna governor

The governorship election petition tribunal has upheld the election of Nasir El-Rufai as the elected governor of Kaduna state.

Channels TV reports that Justice Ibrahim Bako who is the chairman of the three-man tribunal delivered the judgement on Monday, September 9.

The tribunal said Isah Ashiru who is the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was unable to prove his allegations of rigging labelled against Governor El-Rufai.

In the petition filed before the tribunal, the PDP candidate alleged that “irregularities trailed the conduct of the March 9, governorship election and asked the tribunal to declare him winner of the election.”

The tribunal said the PDP candidate was unable to provide factual evidence to support his allegation.

Meanwhile, the election of the member of the House of Representatives, representing Ikwo/Ezza South federal constituency, Lazarus Ogbee, was cancelled by the National Assembly election petitions tribunal in Abakaliki, Ebonyi state.

Delivering the judgement on Monday, September 9, Justice Sika Henry Aprioku declared the rival of Ogbee, Chinedu Ogar of the All Progressive Congress (APC), as the winner of the poll, The Nation reports.

This is coming after Ogar had contested the results of the election in court, insisting that his votes were erroneously reduced by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in wards like Ikwo and Onueke in Ezza.
