Raphael Varane: Zidane blocked Real Madrid star from joining Mourinho at United

- Raphael Varane has been a huge fan of Jose Mourinho while he was manager at Real Madrid

- Mourinho attempted to lure the Frenchman when he was newly appointed as Man United boss

- But the move was blocked by Zinedine Zidane after persuading the Frenchman to stay in Spain

Rahael Varane would have been Jose Mourinho's first signing when he became Manchester United boss, reports claim.

Mourinho turned his attention to Eric Bailly after failing to land Varane and signed the Ivorian from Villarreal for £30million.

The Cote d'Ivoire international made a promising start to his career at Old Trafford but has been struggling with recurring injury problems.

Bailly is currently nursing a knee problem he sustained at United's during pre-season campaign and is expected to make a return next year.
