Igbo group alert: Gov Ortom assures on security

Benue governor, Samuel Ortom has assured the Igbo community and other Nigerians doing business in the state that the security of their lives and property is guaranteed.

Governor Ortom was reacting to a recent call by Igbos in Benue, who called on him to ensure their protection over what they described as targeted kidnapping, stressing that they were fast becoming ‘endangered species’ in the state as a result of insecurity.

The governor also stated that his government has taken proactive measures to tackle the pockets of kidnapping incidents and the efforts have put criminals on their heels.

He pointed out out that the state's legislation which prohibits kidnapping and cultism is in force, adding that those who violate the law and their sponsors will be made to face the consequences .

He also e-emphasized the resolve of his administration not to surrender the state to criminals, adding that the clampdown on hoodlums has intensified.

He allayed the fears of business people in the state and urged them not to be discouraged to consider shutting down their investments.

He further said his government is doing everything within its powers to ensure that no criminal goes unpunished.

He called on Benue people to support security operatives in intelligence gathering to enable them succeed.

Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has restated his plans to improve the security architectures in the southwest region of the country.

Part of the strategies, he said, is his plan to partner with the Aare Gani Adams-led members of the Oodua Peoples Congress and approve the deployment of special forces in the region to reduce the spate of insecurity in the southwest.
