Xenophobia: South Africa’s high commissioner Monroe denies attacks on Nigerians

- South Africa’s high commissioner to Nigeria, Bobby Monroe, has denied attacks on Nigerians in his country

- The commissioner said the attacks were not only targeted at Nigerians in the country

- Monroe argued that businesses belonging to other South Africans were equally affected in the violence

Bobby Monroe, the South Africa’s high commissioner to Nigeria, has denied reports of xenophobic attacks in his country.

Channels TV reports that Monroe denied that the attacks in South Africa were xenophobic and targeted at Nigerians.

Legit.ng gathered that the commissioner made the comments at a media briefing with Nigeria’s foreign affairs ministry headed by Geoffery Onyeama on Tuesday, September 3.

He described the attacks as sporadic acts of violence, adding that businesses belonging to other South Africans were also affected in the violence.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that Onyeama summoned Moroe over the xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa.

It was reported that a meeting was scheduled to hold between the duo by 11am on Tuesday, September 3, according to a senior official of the ministry, Kimiebi Ebenfa, who confirmed the development.

In related development, the members of Nigeria’s House of Representatives would be cutting short their four-week recess over the killings of the country’s citizens in South Africa.
