Three die, 9 injured in auto crash on Lagos-Ibadan expressway accident

- Three persons died on Monday, September 2, along Lagos-Ibadan expressway

- Nine other passengers also sustained serious injury

- Babatunde Akinbiyi, the the spokesperson for TRACE, said the accident was caused by over speeding

No fewer than three persons lost their lives in an accident involving a Toyota Sienna and a Mack tipper around Onigaari area of Ogun state on Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

Premium Times reports that the spokesperson for Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident on Monday, September 2.

Legit.ng gathered that Akinbiyi said the accident was caused by over speeding and recklessness of the driver of the Sienna car marked MUS 932 FE which rammed into a stationary tipper.

He said that 12 persons involved in the accident included 10 adults and two kids.

”I learnt the Sienna, a commercial vehicle loaded from Ibadan to Lagos when it suddenly lost control due to speeding and reckless driving and rammed into the stationary tipper parked by the road side,” he said.

Akinbiyi said that the injured victims were rescued and taken to Victory hospital, Ogere, while the deceased were deposited at FOS mortuary, Ipara, Remo.

He commiserated with the families of the dead, while also enjoining motorists to avoid excessive speeding, especially during the raining season because of attendant challenges.

Akinbiyi advised articulated vehicle drivers to desist from parking close to the highways.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that five persons lost their lives while over 10 others sustained injuries following a tanker explosion at Dikko junction, along Kaduna-Abuja highway, in Niger state.

It was reported that the accident, which occurred around 8pm on Friday, August 30, also destroyed 19 vehicles, including the tanker and 35 make shift shops in the area.
