DSS Detention: I’ll meet with Sowore to determine next course of action - Falana

- Femi Falana says he’ll meet with Omoyele Sowore, following the high court’s refusal to order the latter’s release from detention

- Falana said a decision will be taken after he meets with the activist

- Sowore was arrested by the DSS on the eve of the nationwide protest organized by his RevolutionNow movement

The counsel to Omoyele Sowore, convener of the #RevolutionNow movement, Femi Falana (SAN), has stated that following the refusal of the Abuja Federal High Court to order his client’s release, he will consult with the activist on his next step.

An application challenging Sowore’s detention by the Department of State Services (DSS) had been dismissed by the court on Wednesday, August 28, The Cable reports.

Legit.ng notes that the presiding judge, Evelyn Maha, said it was not in the act of the court to overrule the decision of a court of cognate jurisdiction, and referred the matter back to Justice Taiwo Taiwo who gave the detention order.

Falana, in a chat with newsmen after the ruling, said after he meets with Sowore, a decision will be taken.

He said: “We are going to consult our client with respect to our next step.

“The court has just delivered its ruling and we are going to meet with our client today in order to take a decision on the matter.

“In the interim, we are back to Hon Justice Taiwo as per the ruling of the court. I take instructions from clients and I am going to discuss the ruling with my client so that we can take appropriate decision.”

Sowore was arrested by the DSS on the eve of the nationwide protest organized by his movement. He has been in detention since August 3.

Recall that Legit.ng previously reported that Femi Falana said the federal government would be making a mistake if it filed charges against Omoyele Sowore.

Without mentioning President Muhammadu Buhari’s name, Falana said Sowore had briefed him from detention and that his first witness would be someone in government who in 2011 also called for a revolution, if the latter was charged.
