Ashley Cole finally announces retirement from professional football at age 38

- The 38-year-old who works as a pundit is now pursuing a coaching career

Ashley Cole has finally hanged his boots after 20 active years in the game, he revealed on Sky sports.

The 38-year-old played for Arsenal, Chelsea, England, Roma and LA Galaxy at left-back in his glittering career.

Cole made a controversial switch to Chelsea in 2006 under the tutelage of Jose Mourinho before finishing his career with Derby County at the end of last season.

He is now pursuing a career in coaching and is already working towards getting his badges.

He said: "After hard thinking and consideration, it was obviously time to hang my boots up.

"I can look forward to my next chapter which will hopefully be coaching. I'm doing a course at the moment. Now I want to be great as a coach.

"Incredible to be honest. As a young kid I never expected to play one game or be a professional.

"So looking back now, to be able to say I played in World Cups, Champions League finals, being lucky enough to lift Premier League titles is a young kid's dream. I fulfilled my dream."

When asked of his proudest moment, Cole added: "I think the England caps. I probably didn't grasp it as much as I should.

"I look back now and I'm like, 'I played for my country.' Not just once but over 100 times so I'm proud of that but a little bit disappointed I didn't get to a final or even a semi-final with England."

Cole has gone on to make 697 club appearances, winning 13 major trophies including three Premier Leagues and the Champions League.

Cole also played 107 times for England, with only five players representing the Three Lions on more occasions.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Diego Forlan has announced his retirement from professional football after more than 20 active years in the game.

The former Uruguay and Manchester United forward last appearance was in May 2018, where he featured for Hong Kong side, Kitchee.
