- President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) have expressed their views on the petition by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Atiku Abubakar in the election tribunal
- President Buhari has said that the petition of the PDP and Atiku against him are the most worthless in history
- Also, the president and the APC said that the witnesses presented by the petitioners made no impression on the case
The petition by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate in the last presidential election, Atiku Abubabar, has been referred to by President Muhammadu Buhari as the most worthless election allegation in history.
Added to this, President Buhari urged the presidential election petition court to dismiss the petition due to its alleged lack of merit.
Buhari and the APC stated that apart from the fact that the reliefs sought by the petitioners are ungrantable and meaningless, Atiku and the PDP failed woefully to prove the allegations.
The president and the APC argued that the petitioners dumped documents on the tribunal in the name of trying to tender evidence in court.
They said: “It is submitted with every force that in the annals of election petition proceedings in Nigeria, this particular petition has been the most starved in terms of evidence, whether oral or documentary.
"The petitioners also woefully failed to appreciate that this court does not wrought miracles, but decides cases according to law, and not based on sentiments."
Even more, the president and the ruling party said that the witnesses presented by the petitioners made no impression on the case at hand.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Lauretta Onochie, the aide to President Buhari on social media, had said that Atiku Abubakar would be defeated at the ongoing presidential election tribunal.
Onochie made this known in a tweet via her official account on Wednesday, July 31, while reacting to the report that President Buhari would open his defence against the PDP presidential candidate.
