El-Zakzaky: Sani advises FG as Shi’ite leader rejects Indian hospital

- Senator Shehu Sani asks the federal government to allow the doctor of Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), to handle his medical attention

- Sani says his advice is for the federal government to take a blame for anything that happens to the sect leader

- The former senator says the federal government can only keep tab on his development while allowing his doctor to treat him as he wants

A former senator representing Kaduna central district at the National Assembly, Shehu Sani, has advised the federal government to be careful in handling the complaint by Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN).

It was learnt that Sani gave the advice while speaking on Arise Television on Thursday, August 15.

The former senator asked the federal government to ensure that El-Zakzaky’s doctor is involved in treating the sect leader and his wife, Zeenat, so as not to take the blame for any eventualities.

“My advice will be to keep a tab on him while allowing his doctors to attend to him, because in a situation like this involving life and death, whatever happens, if it is not his preferred medical personnel, the government will be blamed.

“If the sheikh is sick and says, ‘this is the person that should attend to me’, allow that person to attend to him. And make it public that we have taken him to his own doctors,” he advised.

He urged the federal government not to get itself into trouble with its decision as against that of El-Zakzaky.

“In a situation where there is a demand that he should leave the country, they know very well that if anything bad happens to El-Zakzaky, they will be the ones to be blamed.

“If it is the medical personnel from the side of the government that continues to oversee his health, then the government should be ready to take the blame of whatever that happens to me.

“But if it is his own medical personnel, then the government will be exonerated from whatever that happens to him,” Sani added.

Legit.ng earlier reported that El-Zakzaky lamented his situation in an Indian hospital, describing it as “pathetic and worrisome situation”.

According to the Shiite leader, conditions at the Indian hospital he was taken to is worse than that of Nigeria.
