- JAMB has appointed former INEC chairman Attahiru Jega as chairman of new committee
- Jega is expected to head other members of the committee ahead of the 2019/2020 session
- The committee will look into the internalisation of admissions into Nigeria's tertiary institutions through JAMB
The former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Attahiru Jega, has been appointed as chairman of the committee on internationalisation of admissions into tertiary educational institutions in Nigeria.
This appointment was made by the registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, Ishaq Oloyede.
The former INEC chairman will be assisted by Professor Emeritus, Olugbemiro Jegede, former vice-chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria.
The INEC registrar who spoke during the inauguration of the committee said it was important “in view of the prevailing localization of tertiary institutions in the country, hence the need to urgently put in place the machinery to actualize the internationalisation of admissions in Nigeria starting from the 2019/2020 academic session”
The committee is expected to come up with strategies “for the internalisation of admissions into Nigeria's tertiary institutions through JAMB.”
The committee is also to suggest ways foreign centres of JAMB could attract more candidates, especially Nigerians in the diaspora, to apply for admission into Nigerian universities as well as develop a new template for conducting the unified tertiary matriculation examination in more foreign countries.
Other members of the committee are former vice-chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, Professor Olushola Oyewole, former vice-chancellor of the University of Uyo, Professor Comfort Ekpo,
Professor Aminu Mikailu, Professor Domwini Kuupole and former chairman of the Association of West African Universities Professor. Adenike Oladimeji, Fasasi Zubairu.

Meanwhile, Balarabe Musa, the first executive governor of old Kaduna state and chairman board of trustees of Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) cautioned the party over Jega's resolve to join the party.
Jega, who joined PRP recently, was the chairman of INEC in 2014 when PRP was deregistered by the commission.
